01KITCHEN & BATHROOM DIY
Seamless storage within the shower wall
A recessed shelf carved into the shower wall offers a quiet place for bottles and bars, keeping essentials within reach while maintaining clean lines. This Della Francesca niche integrates seamlessly into wet areas, transforming a blank expanse of tiling into a functional architectural detail.
Designed as a ready-made substrate, it accepts tile, decorative plaster or synthetic renders directly onto its surface. It suits both interior bathrooms and exterior wet rooms, providing a durable base that remains stable under moisture.
02MATERIALS
Polystyrene core with liquid sealant
The unit is constructed from a high-density polystyrene core, finished with a waterproof, liquid-applied sealant. This composition creates a robust, ready-made substrate that resists degradation over time. The material stands up to constant exposure to water without rotting or losing structural integrity.
04STRUCTURE
Compressive strength for durability
With a compressive strength rate of 300k/Pa, equivalent to thirty tonnes per square metre, the bond between the reinforcing fibreglass mesh and cement mortar holds firmly. This density ensures the niche maintains its shape and stability even in demanding environments where standard materials might soften or shift.
05INSTALLATION
Lightweight and easy to cut
Weighing just 1.7kg in its carton, the niche is light enough to carry and manoeuvre with ease. Its dimensions are 350 by 350 by 92mm, fitting neatly into standard wall cavities. Adjusting the size requires only a fine saw or a sharp Stanley knife, allowing for precise customisation on site.
