01ACTIVITY TOYS
A layered cake for early mathematics
The Circle Fraction Cake sits on the table like a dessert waiting to be shared, its layers inviting small hands to explore. It transforms the abstract idea of fractions into something physical, visible and easy to grasp.
This QToys resource helps children understand mathematical concepts through tactile play. It suits young learners who benefit from seeing how parts combine to form a whole, blending education with creative imagination.
DESIGN
Structured layers for visual clarity
The toy is constructed to resemble a beautiful, layered cake. This familiar form provides a clear visual framework for understanding division. The distinct sections allow children to see immediately how a whole can be broken down into smaller, equal parts without confusion.
LEARNING
Making fractions tangible and accessible
By manipulating the physical pieces, children move beyond rote memorisation. They engage in problem-solving by rearranging the segments, discovering relationships between different fractions. This hands-on approach makes complex mathematical ideas simple and enjoyable to investigate at an early age.
PLAY
Imaginative role play meets study
Beyond strict arithmetic, the cake encourages creative storytelling. Children can pretend to serve guests or bake their own treats, weaving narrative into the lesson. This dual function keeps engagement high, ensuring that learning feels like a natural extension of play rather than a chore.
